Things Every Hotel is not Telling You

Whenever choosing a place to stay, I always rely my decision on the pictures that were published online. The veranda, dining area, and the swimming pool should look stunning in photos, if not, then I’d have to move on with other options. A beachfront hotel that gives you a sweeping view of the ocean or the nearby nightlife district is what interest me the most. After several travel experiences, I’ve realized that the façade of any hotel is not to be prioritized. You should dig deep beyond their marketing strategies and clever camera angles to ensure that you’ll get the value for your money.
Most hotels are now offering free breakfasts to attract customers. But are those breakfasts really sumptuous? It’s okay to be straightforward and ask the contents of your breakfast tray. Sadly, some hotels will just serve you with poor blended coffee or a couple of tea bags and a few selection of prewrapped pastries. Surprisingly, there are “bed and breakfasts” that don’t offer free breakfast at all. Ironically, they will charge you extra for the breakfast part.
Thanks to Google Earth, you can verify the location of the hotel and if it is nearby the essential shops as it claims to be. Unless you’re aim is spiritual rejuvenation, don’t choose an isolated hotel. It will help you save a lot of money on your trip if your hotel is ergonomically situated at the center of boutiques, restaurants, and attractions. Don’t get fooled by descriptions on advertisements.
There’s a great difference between “oceanfront rooms” and “ocean view rooms”. Oceanfront rooms and villas are usually the most expensive type since you’re just a few steps away from the beach. On the other hand, ocean view rooms might just give you a glimpse of the ocean but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re close to it. Say for example your hotel room is at the 8th floor which gives you an opportunity to watch the breathtaking sunrise and sunset right at your porch. However, you need to spend a couple of minutes of walk in order to reach the shore.
Free public WiFi connection is what most visitors look forward to whenever making reservations. But, you must inquire if the connection is available to the entire hotel or just limited to areas like coffee shop and lounge. It’s very disappointing that you don’t have an internet connection at your room. How will you be able to upload your photos or update your Facebook status? Most of the time, these free connections don’t usually work or they are very slow.
Another bummer when you’re already in the hotel is finding out that their infinity pool is not part of what you paid for. Which means that every time you want to take a dip, you need to pay for some fees. You need to find a hotel that will let you do anything exciting rather than staying inside your room the whole day. The sports bar, gym, and exclusive hotel clubs should be accessible without extra charge.
