Down Cocktails on the Met’s Roof Garden

Thanks to popular shows like Sex and the City, the idea of drinking cocktails is totally intertwined with NYC. As a result, there’s no shortage of places to get a great cocktail and a great view at the same time, and one of the loveliest of these places is the roof garden of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Throughout the week, this rooftop is a café, and on Friday and Saturday nights it becomes a Martini bar with decadent drinks and spectacular views.

Visit the Tiniest Museum in the City, Museum

New York City is a veritable haven for museum lovers, but there is of course only one museum that can claim to be the smallest of all the museums in the city, and that’s Mmuseumm in lower Manhattan, a space that is dedicated to the overlooked, dismissed, or ignored. And in this city of bright lights, Mmuseumm’s focus on the little things is a refreshing change. This teeny tiny place only fits three people at a time, so it’s probably best for a solo visit.

Take in the Views From the Deck of the Staten Island

Ferry Staten Island is very much the forgotten borough of New York City, even though it has a population of around half a million people, and it’s well worth a visit, not least because that gives you an excuse to ride the Staten Island Ferry, which is a legitimate part of local history. The ferry began operation in 1817, long before locals drove around or took the subway, and the 5 mile ride is totally free. There are also wonderful views from the deck.

Take in a Concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music

New York is a cultural city through and through, and you will be able to catch hundreds of different kinds of performances on any night of the week, and if you want to know the place to catch the best contemporary and avant-garde performances, the Brooklyn Academy of Music would be a very good place to start. It’s also good to know that there are often free performances in the centre’s café, so keep up with their schedule of events if you’re on a budget.

Watch a Cult Classic Movie at Syndicated Cinema

You could spend a whole year in New York, and still have more museums to visit, more parks to stroll, and more restaurants to eat at. But sometimes all you really want to do is take it easy and watch a great movie, right? When that moment strikes, you need to know about Syndicated Cinema. This cinema is a very recent addition to the Brooklyn scene, screening classic films from the past and recent independent films. There’s also a restaurant and cocktail bar on-site.
