Singapore does not
require a visa upon entry to most foreign travelers. Instead, it gives a 30-day
visitor's pass. If you are planning to stay longer, consult your country's
consular office and make sure that your passport has at least a six-month
validity. You are also required to show a return ticket or entry permit for
your next destination, and enough money for your stay there. If you lost your
passport, report it to the police immediately and ask for a replacement travel
document.
When in Singapore, smoking
is prohibited in public places and transports and also within a five-meter
radius from building entrances. The fine for such offence is a minimum of
S$1,000 for first-time offenders.
Transport
There are flights to
Singapore using the Singapore Airlines from 63 cities all over the world
including New York, Houston, and San Francisco. There are also flights coming
from Africa, Europe, and other Asian nations.
Flying to Singapore
is not the only means of transportation to enter the island nation. If you're
entering the country from Malaysia and Thailand, you can either drive your car
or ride on a coach. If you're driving, you have to secure a vehicle entry
permit at the arrival zones.
Going within
Singapore is also not a problem. You can use the MRT, bus, or taxi, all of
which are efficient. The SMRT, however, is the fastest alternative to get
around the city other than the taxi. It also has various ticketing schemes
according to your budget and needs.
Tax Refund
Tourists in Singapore
are entitled to a seven percent tax refund for a minimum purchase of S$100 or
more from participating retail outlets. You can get your tax refund at the
departure halls of Seletar and Changi Airports as well as those who are on an
international cruise whose final destination is not Singapore.
