Sampling Food in Lisbon

Try the Yummy Codfish Fritters at Taberna Tosca

While you’re in Lisbon, it’s imperative that you shove as much local food into your mouth as you possibly can, and a specialty that you really won’t want to miss is the patanisca, which is essentially a salted codfish fritter. For our money, the best codfish fritters in the city can be found at Taberna Tosca, a tapas joint set within a beautiful historical building. If the weather is pleasant, be sure to snatch a table in front of the building in the open air.

Sample Food from Mozambique at Ibo

There is no shortage of wonderful and memorable restaurants around Lisbon, but one of the most special of them all has to be Ibo. This restaurant is set on the River Tagus, and you can experience a stunning view. Not just that, the food is incredible, and influenced by flavours from Mozambique combined with local flair. If you aren’t sure what to order, we can wholeheartedly recommend the shrimp curry.

Eat the Best Seafood of Your Life at Cervejaria Ramiro

There is tonnes of delicious food in Lisbon, but it’s seafood that almost always steals the show. While there are plenty of places to eat yummy seafood in the city, we have a soft spot for Cervejaria Ramiro. The restaurant lies north of the city, but it’s well worth the trek, and even Anthony Bourdain has recommended the place so it has to be something special. There’s clams, shrimp, lobsters, and loads more deliciousness, plus a casual and fun atmosphere where the beer flows.

Enjoy a Cheap Lunch With a View at the Nuns’ Canteen

The Nuns’ Canteen is one of the best kept secrets of Lisbon, and it’s one of the best places in the city for a cheap lunch with an awesome. The Nuns’ Canteen earned its name because it is run by a Catholic association, and for just 8 euros, you can grab yourself a main course, a dessert, and a drink. The really great thing about the Nuns’ Canteen is the incredible view that is offered up with your food. You get to look out at the glistening water of the river and the undulating streets of the city.

Try a Traditional Portuguese Cake Made With Almonds

If you have something of a sweet tooth, of course you are going to indulge in the famous custard tarts that can be found in bakeries around the city, but there are other desserts in Lisbon too. If you’d prefer to go for a slice of cake with your cup of coffee, you are in luck because Toucino de Ceu is a locally made cake that is difficult to tire of. This is a cake made from almond flour, and against all the odds, pork lard. Don’t let that put you off – it’s yummy!
