Having a Pleasant Travel with Parents

One of the challenges of being in a road travel with the entire family is the differences by age and interest.  To travel with parents and with grandparents is a rare opportunity.  Below are some tips to have a pleasant road travel with the elders.

Allow space for necessities.  This simply means limiting your luggage, determine necessities and be able to accommodate them.  If you have a big family and you are all going, there will be lesser space in the car.  Be considerate enough to ensure that everyone will be able to bring what is really needed and making the travel more convenient.

Try something different.  Do not always assume that your kids will not appreciate something that is commonly enjoyed by the elders.  Have an open mind and do not always stick to the plan when it comes to activities and adventures.  There are many things that are worth trying.

Be sensitive to each individual's needs.  Try to be more considerate and respect everyone's personal needs.  If someone is sleeping during the travel, refrain from playing loud music.  If an elder member finds it difficult to take long walks, be patient enough and find alternate activities that do not require long walks. 

Have a time for your own.  Though you go as a family, it does not mean that you should be together all the times. Let each member enjoy individuality, preference and interest.  If someone wants to go by himself, allow that person to go on his own.  In this case, everyone will appreciate and enjoy the trip. Plan activities that will be for everybody, then let go on their own as well.

Acknowledge older generations. The kids should be taught to be more patient and to respect the elders. They should live with the fact that a family is a blessing and no matter what the differences are, a family will always be a family and nothing can replace your home.
