5 destination to travel in Ionian Islands


The Ionian Islands is one of the best cherished places of Greece’s about 6,000 islands.

The island is best known for its stunning attraction and year-round average weather in addition to their rich history. You will be stunned with the spectacular landscapes, deep blue waters and towering mountains. The islands are packed with cultural destination that let tourists have a look at Greece’s history and legends. There are also well known attractions for open-air activities. The Ionian Islands is also best for rest and relaxation.

Kythira is found in the southern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. Even in the historic time, it’s a strategic naval site attracting seafarers, merchants and conquerors from all over the world resulting in varying culture. The island has an archaeological riches that reflects the island’s cultural variety. Paxi is one of the smallest islands in Ionian Islands. It is is just 13 km in length. The island has a lot to offer varying different attractions even the most sophisticated traveller will enjoy. There are really stunning beaches you can enjoy in Paxi. The southern coast has around 40 caves you can explore and have an adventure. The ancient Agios Nikolaos is also a beautiful attraction.

Lefkada is an island bounded by two dozen islets it’s attached to the Mainland of Greece by a floating bridge and a long walkway. The island is very accessible making it a well known vacation place. It offers tourists range of natural, recreational, and cultural attraction sites. The west part of the Island has beautiful beaches while the southern part is a place for kite flying and paraglide. The town of Lefkada is the island’s most appealing cultural establishments, which consists of the Charamogleious Eidiki Lefkadiaki Library and the 12th-century fort Agia Mavra. The Archaeological Museum showcases an impressive collection of artefacts from the Palaeolithic Era until the 4th century A.D.

Ithaca is where the famous Greek hero Odysseus resided. It is the home of the very popular Homer’s tale of Odysseus. You will also find here some of the ancient folklore sites like the Arethoussa Spring and Cave of the Nymphs. Visit also Vathy since you can find here  most of the island’s cultural attraction sites like the  too Maritime Museum,Folklore Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the basilica of Panaghia, where you will find Crucifixion symbol consider to be made by El Greco, a Spanish Renaissance painter.

Lastly but not the least, you should visit Kefalonia the largest of Ionian Islands and one of the most picturesque site. Argostoli, island’s capital stands like a pitch where you can see the overlooking Koutavous lagoon. Another attraction place is the Melissani Lake.
