Royal Palace Napoli and the The Historical City of Pompeii




Naples has it’s own contribution of royal status and wealth to Italy’s history. The Royal Palace Napoli is the perfect example, located in central Naples. This palace was built in the 17th century and was used as one of several palaces by the kings of Naples.

Today, the Royal Palace Napoli has several uses, remaining a palace for tourists to explore in addition to holding a museum, a national library, and official tourism offices. This is also the site of the famous Teatro San Carlo.

The Royal Palace Napoli is an elaborate palace with long halls, each leading to a different feature of the palace. One wing may lead you toward the national library with a vast book collection recounting much of Italy’s history and another hall may lead you to the living quarters of the palace, showcasing the preserved furnishings from when it was occupied.

As numerous rulers of Naples used this palace, inside you will find a special series of statues positioned in chronological order of all of the rulers who occupied the Royal Palace Napoli.

Pompeii is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

Pompeii was a city built in the 1st Century but was subjected to several back-to-back disasters including an earthquake and the famous Vesuvius eruption that buried the city for countless centuries. After being rediscovered, Pompeii has been a major tourist destination for the past 250 years. This ancient city has been preserved beneath all of it’s degree and today gives a glimpse into the a major city in the past.

Pompeii should not be mistaken by the nearby city of Pompei, which was derived from the original. Pompeii is a citywide tourist site as it was uncovered by archaeologists that showcase not only architecture but also objects that were used in the past. Within the city you will discover houses, temples, shops, cafes, amphitheaters, etc.

Until recent, excavations were still being conducted and many of the sites are still blocked off, but with the scale of the city, you can walk around for several days to see the entire uncovered city.
